BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Dead Broke Farm offers riding lessons and daily trails rides at our riding camp. Our trail rides are shaded, 1-hour rides through our 110-acre farm. Children under the age of 6 will ride double with an experienced guide. Six year olds have the option of choosing to ride with a guide or on their own. Ages 7 and up will ride on their own. We provide riding instruction, helmets, and guides at a 1:5 ratio.
SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: We are able to accommodate special needs campers provided they can understand and follow directions and are balanced enough to ride a bicycle on their own. We rely upon parents to be honest in their assessment of their child's abilities so that we can provide them with a fun and safe experience.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Horses/Equestrian, and more.
CAMP LOCATION: We are located on 110 acres right between Raleigh and Durham and are just 20 minutes from RTP. We are just minutes (4 miles) off of I-540 at the Leesville Rd exit, Exit 7. Convenient to Raleigh, Durham, Wake Forest, Knightdale, and Cary.
CAMP FACILITIES: Dead Broke Farm has beautiful, wooded trails and is home to more than 35 horses and lots of other farm animals. Campers have access to an air conditioned clubhouse, jungle gym, and the shaded horse hitching area.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Dead Broke Farm has been offering horseback riding camp since 2006 and have subsequently hired mature teenage guides who attended our camp as 5 year-olds! We strive to nurture kids' love of animals and the outdoors and welcome their continued patronage in our riding lessons and trail riding programs till they are old enough to become a volunteer or paid staff member.
We have lots of farm animals to see and enjoy including horses, ponies, dogs, cats, cows, sheep, goats, donkeys, and more. The list varies but there are always lots of animals to enjoy and learn about.
Our core focus is on the horseback riding. But when they aren't riding, they can watch videos in the air conditioned club house, play foosball, play on the jungle gym, or help the guides as they go about caring for our horses and other animals. On given days, we will also take them to: 1) visit the cows, alpacas, donkeys, and other animals, 2) see the puppies available at that time, 3) see the pond and the horses in the more remote pastures, or 4) to pick blackberries or blueberries (dependent upon their availability during the week your child attends camp).
And if parents want to join their kids out on the trails, we offer a $10 discount to parents while their kids are attending camp. It's a fun family experience, and it allows the kids to show off how much they've leaned during their week at camp.
FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Any age can attend our camp provided you are at least 5 years old or older. We've had mothers and grandmothers attend camp with their kids - not because they had to - but because they wanted to experience the horse camp together. This is a great option for out-of-state situations or instances where the Mom or Grandmother enjoy riding as much as the kids.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Dead Broke Farm offers guided trail rides, birthday parties, pony rides, and lessons year-round for all ages. Kids and adults are welcome to ride with us.
