BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Free overnight camp for children with disabilities. Campers attend weekly, by age, half boys, half girls. Campers are assigned a one to one counselor ans nurses are available 24/7 for all needs including medicine distribution.
SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: Our camp is exclusively for special needs campers. Special diets accommodated.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Basketball, Swimming, Wilderness/Nature, Dance, Music/Band, and more. Arts & Crafts, Horse Therapy, Dog Therapy, Talent Contest, Scuba, Special Needs Rope Course
CAMP LOCATION: We are in Defuniak Springs at the Tri-State Christian Camp. Exit 85 off I-10 and about 8 miles north of that exit.
CAMP FACILITIES: We have 6 cabins that sleep 16, lodge and dining hall plus pool and recreational activities. See website for photos
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: RYC provides free overnight camp to children with disabilities in order to raise their self-esteem, increase their social skills and provide opportunities for success in outdoor activities. Camp activities include camp activities like swimming, arts & crafts, hikes, bonfires, dance and therapy with horses and dogs and music. Each child has their own counselor for one on one attention. We have professional nursing staff 24/7 who also distribute medicine.
RYC was founded in 1974 by Rotary Clubs in District 6940. Clubs throughout the Florida panhandle provide almost 50% of the funds needed to manage the camp, $65,000 annually. In 2018 RYC was awarded the Florida State University Foundation and College of Education Exemplary Community Agency Award. Corporate and other donations provide our annual budget of $150,000. Campers are accepted without regard to ethnicity, gender, or disability.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We train up to 5 CIT annually.
